TOS Field Trips
East Texas:  Nacogdoches area and Angelina National Forest

Dates:

Friday evening, February 25, plus Saturday-Sunday, February 26-27, 2005, 2+ days.  Among our most popular trips, this will be the sixth year we have offered the opportunity to see Henslow's Sparrows.  In addition, this year we will be adding a Friday evening visit to see displaying American Woodcock.

Habitat:

East Texas Pineywoods

Target birds

Henslow's Sparrow, Brown-headed Nuthatch, up to eight species of woodpeckers, and other wintering East Texas specialities.   Red-cockaded Woodpecker is a possibility, but hardly a guarantee.  Please note, there is no guarantee that we will find Henslow's Sparrows, although they have been located during each of our previous five years of trips to this area.   Decent weather cannot be assured.  Henslow's may be more of a problem in the future as several favored fields have changed for the worse.  But, that's why these are tough birds to add to a life-list.
