DANGRIGA SIDE-TRIP
Optional Trip to Central and Southern Belize
A vacation within a vacation!
All of our 2001 birders rated our side-trip to Central and Southern Belize as the
highlight of the Mexico/Belize birding caravan. In fact, they recommended that we add an
extra day to the trip. This made the side-trip even better in 2002 and it was again a high
point of our 2003 caravan. While we will be seeing great birds and wonderful scenery
earlier in the trip, both reach their peaks on this side-trip.
Belize contains some of the best native jungle in the Americas. Dense, tall, teeming
with wildlife, visiting the jungles of the Maya Mountains is an incredible experience that
you will cherish for years to come.
Belize is rarely traveled by RV'ers. In fact, in Belize, there are no RV parks beyond
the borders and Belize City. So we've put together a package deal that covers our
accommodations and tours to this part of Belize, while keeping our RV's safe at the
Corozal campsite.
Package Features
- 4 nights accommodation at a beachside hotel on the Caribbean. All rooms have ceiling
fans; some have air conditioning. All rooms have private bath with hot and cold water.
Some rooms have balconies or patios overlooking the sea.
- Guided tour of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Sanctuary), lead by an
experienced native birding guide, including entrance fees and lunch. Some birders each
year discover ten life birds in one day at this sanctuary.
- Half-day trip to Red Bank to see Scarlet Macaws
feeding and flying over the jungle canopy.
- Boat trip through the Inner Channel to the Barrier Reef, snorkeling at the reef islands,
birding at Man-O'-War Caye to view nesting frigatebirds
and boobies.
- Visit to Guanacaste National Park, famous for its magnificent trees and a great place to
bird.

- Visit to Blue Hole National Park where we've found White Hawk
, King Vulture, Wedge-tailed Woodcreeper and many other life-birds.
- Free afternoon (after Red Bank) and free morning (before Barrier Reef) to do as you
please. Possibilities, some of which may involve out-of-pocket expense, include revisiting
Cockscomb or Blue Hole and the orange groves near the National Park, visiting an old sugar
mill and Marie Sharp Tabasco Hot Sauce Factory, or just sitting under a palm tree and
watching the blue Caribbean.
