There is no better place to enjoy spring migration than the Texas coast. We’ll explore it all, from South Padre Island near Mexico through the Central Coast at Corpus Christi–the birdiest city in the United States–to the Upper Texas Coast at High Island. Combined with the preceding Birder’s Reunion, these two tours should bring us 300+ species, including 30 warblers. Enjoy birding with Bert Frenz, long-time Texas resident, birding guide, Texas Ornithological Society Director, and subregional editor for North American Birds.
We will be visiting about 97 birding sites, some for just a half-hour, some for a half-day. All have been selected for their varied habitat, offering the greatest concentration and diversity of species. Trans-Gulf migrants arriving at coastal sites descend in large numbers, often exhausted from their long flight and thus are easily approachable and offer excellent opportunity for photography and close examination. Since birding sites and campgrounds are relatively close together, our travel–combining birding and RV transit–will be light, averaging only 67 miles per day.
We will be staying at excellent campgrounds with full hook-ups. Many campgrounds will be at the sandy Gulf Coast beaches of Texas.
