What do you do during the summer break? That's up to you, but here is what others did on our 2006 Alaska caravan. One couple met their children at the Anchorage airport and went sightseeing for a week with them, followed by going back to a few of their favorite sites after the kids left. Another couple invited their grandson to join them in Alaska and spent several weeks together. A third couple stored their RV and flew to California and Panama for business and another birding trip, before returning for their RV and the trip home.
The main point is that almost all of those that have traveled with us to Alaska previous years, have wanted to stay longer and see more or revisit favorites or just stay put at one campground for a few weeks soaking up the wonderful scenery.
If you are the type that wants someone else to design your summer break, we've got lots of ideas for you and we've also designed two special side trips for that time frame:
ferry to Kodiak Island (3 nights)
visit Valdez and boat trip in Prince William Sound (3 nights)
Then after we've taken our break, we will meet up again Tok and continue the Birding & Nature caravan.
One of the special opportunities this delayed schedule will give us is to be able to see Alaska and the Yukon Territory at the time when we can see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and changing fall colors. We also have an exciting seven day trip planned for the Dempster Highway in the Yukon, taking us to the Northwest Territories during fall migration.
