RV Tour Designed for Birders & Their Partners

Tour beginning April 18, 2012

to July 16, 2012

We doubt you will find another caravan like this one. After five trips to Alaska, most stretching over three seasons, Wagonmasters Bert and Shari Frenz have seen more of the state than most Alaskans have. Now they have put together a fascinating itinerary to see the remote parts of Alaska: places like Kodiak, Dutch Harbor, Ketchikan, Sitka, King Cove, Nome, Barrow, Adak Island and the Pribilofs.

Also different for this caravan is its flexibility. Travelers get to pick the parts of the itinerary they want and have the freedom to travel independently for other parts of the schedule. Although designed especially for travelers who have already visited the popular tourist sites and want to see new vistas, this trip will also appeal to first-time visitors who want to see the best of the wild places of Alaska. Take a look at the itinerary and you will notice its casual agenda with short RV travel distances and plenty of leisure time or opportunities to “do your own thing”.

We will all travel together for Part 1. The rest is divided into seven optional parts, priced individually. Caravaners can choose among the tours or take them all.

    Here's the overall schedule.

What do you do during the "on your own" breaks?  That's up to you, but here is what others did on previous Alaska caravans.  One couple met their children at the Anchorage airport and went sightseeing for a week with them, followed by going back to a few of their favorite sites after the kids left.  Another couple invited their grandson to join them in Alaska and spent several weeks together.  A third couple stored their RV and flew to California and Panama for business and another birding trip, before returning for their RV and the trip home.  Another couple flew to eastern U.S. for a wedding.

The main point is that almost all of those that have traveled with us to Alaska previous years, have wanted to stay longer and see more or revisit favorites or just stay put at one campground for a few weeks soaking up the wonderful scenery.

Here are some more suggestions.  During the first break, visit Seward and other parts of the Kenai Peninsula before meeting up again for Part 2. For the second break, visit Valdez and take a boat trip to the Criswell Islands, or return to the Kenai Peninsula for salmon fishing and clamming.

At the end of our tours, you can thread your way back to Canada on your own at your leisure.  Or, if you would like to hook up with a returning caravan, let us know and we will offer the options and their return dates.
