A Birder's Guide to Belize

 Belize eBird

As of 2015, over a half million Belize bird sightings have been submitted to Cornell University's eBird database.  When "A Birder's Guide to Belize" was written, the database was well under 100,000 records.  All birders can contribute their records to this site.  If you haven't used it before, go to http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ to learn more.

Using Hotspots - the name is a bit of a misnomer.  For Belize, it is any site that is likely to be visited more than once.  As Hotspot Editor, I have created 572 Hotspots as of December 2015.  Please use these, rather than creating your own.  If your birding location does not match an existing Hotspot, add it but also check the box suggesting it as a Hotspot.  Here is a list of existing Hotspots: Belize eBird hotspots

Moving earlier submissions to Hotspots - by collecting sightings to hotspots, eBird can give good site checklists.  If you would like to contribute your sightings to these checklists, you are encouraged to move your earlier submissions (with Private sites) to Hotspots if they lie at the same spot +/- a mile or so and in the same habitat.  Click here for easy directions for the procedure.
